Overview

Eave AirWarden™ is a connected particulate matter (PM) sensor & Volatile Organic Compound Monitor that uses laser scattering to measure air surrounding the device. This technology, together with high-quality and long-lasting components, enables precise measurements from the device's first operation and throughout its lifetime of more than ten years.


PM2.5 refers to particulate matter with particle diameter up to 2.5 microns and is among the most dangerous air pollutants. Due to their small size, PM2.5 particles can travel deep into the human lung and cause a variety of health issues; for instance, by triggering asthma attacks or contributing to cardiovascular disease.


AirWarden™ also detects Volatile Organic Compounds emitted from common building materials such as paints, sealants, and aerosols in the part per billion (ppb) range.


Getting Started

Powering the device on and off


  • To power on the device press and hold the yellow standby button once.
  • To power off the device press and hold the yellow standby button for 3 seconds.

When the device state is 'on' you will see a pulsing LED, when 'off' there is no LED shown.

You do not need to press and hold the power button to turn the device on. To power 'on' simply press once and to power the device 'off' press and hold.

Understanding the LED and Buzzer Alert Warnings and Data


As the AirWarden starts it will immediately assess the levels being measured from both VOC and PM. The colour of the pulsing LED indicates the highest value from either sensor. For example if there are Hazardous levels of Particulate Matter but Good VOC Levels the LED will still pulse purple for the higher value.


Once a threshold is passed for either VOC's or PM's the alert buzzer will be activated. For both VOC and PM this is the Red LED level at Bad or Very Unhealthy. The Alert Buzzer will ring for a short period of time but can also be dismissed early with a single press of the yellow standby button. Once an audio notification has been dismissed although the LED's will continue to report the levels the buzzer will not go off again for 30 minutes.


Alarm Tone Configuration:

  • Tone is automatically dismissed after 15 seconds
  • After dismissal (either user or automatic), the device enters cooldown mode for 20 minutes and will not present the user with any audio alarm triggers during this period.
  • LED's continue to function regardless of dismissal or cooldown.


Particulate Matter (PM) & Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) Thresholds


This table shows the current configuration of the AirWarden's sensors and the LED's colours will correlate to these values. The LED colour correlates with the higher of the the values from both sensors. So if for example there are high levels of Particulate Matter but low levels of VOC's or visa versa, the LED will report on whichever is highest at that time.


Usage Battery Life and Charging

As soon as the AirWarden is powered on the device automatically starts to read both Particulate Matter (PM) levels as well as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) in the air surrounding the wearer.


The body worn AirWarden is designed to be used during a shift for an individual. As such the battery life is around 20 hours depending an average number of alerts.


At the start and end of the shift the device should be plugged directly into a USB C power cable. You do not need to turn the device off before plugging into charge.

The body worn AirWarden is not designed to be both worn and charged at the same time.



Device Start-up considerations

For Particulate Matter the Eave AirWarden sensor can take up to 30 seconds before a stable reading is obtained, depending on the number concentration of particles currently in the air. For VOC readings metal oxide technology is used and requires an initial warm-up time of up to three minutes for the readings to be considered stable. On the first ever power up, the VOC requires up to 1 hour of on-time before the output can be considered reliable.


During this this initial phase after after power-on, the AirWarden will still record air quality samples but their accuracy is not fully guaranteed.
